Shawn P. Roche

Shawn is an associate at Colligan Law LLP – a law firm providing legal services to entrepreneurs and cutting-edge businesses based in Buffalo, New York. Shawn’s practice area relates primarily to intellectual property, securities, and corporate law. As a registered patent agent, licensed to practice by the USPTO, Shawn is especially experienced in patent prosecution. He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in the fields of computer software and consumer electronics for both start-ups and Fortune 500 companies alike.

Shawn started Brooklyn Law School in 2011 and remained in New York City until 2017 when he returned to his hometown of Buffalo and joined Colligan Law. He was particularly excited to rejoin his family and friends in Buffalo during its exciting growth and renaissance.

During his time at Brooklyn Law School, where he graduated with a certification in Intellectual Property Law, Shawn served as a managing editor for the Journal of Law and Policy, where he performed extensive research on the America Invents Act. Shawn also spent two semesters in the prestigious Brooklyn Law Incubator and Policy Clinic, where he assisted startup companies in their pursuit of patent protection in areas such as 3D imaging, audio devices, and software. He also assisted companies in prosecuting design patents and registered trademarks, and in complying with DMCA and FCC regulations.

Before beginning his legal career, he worked as a mechanical engineer and designed heating, plumbing, and fire protection systems for hospitals, schools, laboratories, and hotels.
