Simon Honig is an associate attorney who will assist clients and colleagues with general business matters, transactions and compliance, and support the firm’s growing cannabis law practice. He has supported the Colligan team since June 2023 as a law clerk, assisting with research, communications and other support.
His previous experience includes serving as a law clerk with Mattice Legal LLC, where he focused on name, image and likeness (NIL) legislation, as well as related National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) policies and other sports industry law in general. He has also served as a law clerk with Block, Longo, LaMarca & Brzezinski, P.C., and as a legal assistant with the Cheryl Stein Law Firm.
Honig is a 2023 graduate of the University at Buffalo’s School of Law, with a concentration in Sports Law. While at UB he served as a student attorney for the Entrepreneurship Law Center Clinic. He was also an associate with the Buffalo Human Rights Law Review, social media coordinator for the Buffalo Sports and Entertainment Law Society, and podcast producer for the Baldy Center for Law and Social Policy. He also worked as a contract extern with the university’s Technology Transfer Office.
In addition, Honig earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing from SUNY Geneseo. While there he was a member of the men’s rugby club, served as coach during their 2019 D-II national playoffs, and was a Student Association representative. He also holds a certificate in Business Analytics from Cornell University.
Honig is a member of the Erie County Bar Association. He remains active in the local rugby community, serving as a board member of Rakavii Rugby and assistant coach of the Canisius High School rugby team. He most recently played for the Maccabi USA Men’s Rugby Team and served as assistant captain of the Buffalo Rugby Club. A native of Williamsville, N.Y., he now resides in the city of Buffalo.
